TheTurquoiseBlueTrack

Meet my travel buddies of the South Island Winter Trip.. !

My dear husband Vicky , my good friend Surya and his wife Usha..

The Turqoise Blue Track - Day 2's MidDay:

A refreshing selfie

Hokitikka Gorge - The famous blue waters contrasting with the green forests.
It is a 30 minute detour walk which starts from the car park. The path is well defined and gravelled and suited for a rainy day as well , although it is obviously better when the sun is out.

Hokitikka Gorge Trail

As we walk along a forested track , we reach a small viewing platform where we’ll see the gorge in all its wonder.

The view of the Gorge , the swing bridge and the Greens from the first view point

The milky blue colour of the river flowing down this gorge is amazing. The colour comes from glacial ice water melt mixed with the milkiness of the silt that has been ground down from the rock faces/bed around and under the moving glacier. Its definitely a visual treat to enjoy the nature's pleasant colours in its own combination.

The Valley View from the Swing bridge

As we walk down the track , we reach the swing bridge , consider it walking on Nature's lap.
Its purely incredible to be immersed in such natural hues.

it’s a short walk before you are rewarded with incredible views of spectacular Hokitika Gorge. It feels really secluded and looks incredibly impressive. The vibrant natural colours stitched with nature's sewer, a soothing surrounding one could ever imagine.

A small walk from the swing bridge and a minute of walk down the rock , we reach the splendid bluey valley. Climb up the small rocky path to get the wholesome picturesque sight and to definitely click some naturally colourful pictures for lifetime.

    The Couple Goals

We then drove towards the Frans Josef Glacier's YHA lodge. A cozy stay place with all the required amenities. We always cook most of our meals in the trips. Cooking also becomes an itenary of the trip , as planning and buying ingredients for the entire travel , preparing meals together is also an interesting part.

Taking you around our YHA lodge , the stay place of the evening.

Vicky and Surya are very supportive for us in the kitchen - should definitely need a mention.
We should leave the kitchen and the utensils as clean as we have taken. Its the responsibility of the guests to ensure the comfort of the other guests in the backpackers.
