Amudhan's Annaprasannam

Our Kutti Kuruvi is growing fast and we are nearing our 6 months milestone. We planned to give his first solid meal in Guruvayur Temple, The  Choroon Vazhipadu. Sentiments on one side and Travel Craves on the other side made us to put up the plan for the Guruvayur Trip.Almost 15 months solely dedicated to the little one , we were not allowed for a chance to travel long.
Our little one is a sweet bubbly kiddo and enjoys every short trips that we used to take often. With a good list of items to be packed for the trip, our car's boot space was half filled with Amudhan's thingies.

May 18 2018:
We started from Cuddalore at 4 o clock in the morning as we were skeptic about our Kutti Kuruvi's behaviour in the long travel. So this is our route .. Cuddalore-Salem-Coimbatore-Thrissur-Palakkad. With mild talks and a stop in between  we travelled through the highway.

Morning Breakfast at the famous Junior Kuppanna's  Rukmani Ammal Veg Restaurant.A decent tasted food gave a tasty start for the journey. We are photo freaks and did not fail to click some shots post Brkfast.

Our travel then  continued without any major stops and we reached our stay place at Guruvayur - SRM towers Residency , a luxurious homestay styled in an elite way.

The tiring travel wanted a nap and it was resting time till late evening . Our little one needs a special mention here, Our skeptism proved wrong, he was very calm throughout the travel and we were very happy about his excitement in the new place.
We made a quick purchase on the missed out things for Amudhan and packed our dinner to the stayplace. Kallery Restaurant at Guruvayur offered us some decent tssted Biriyanis, Parotas and ChicCurries.
On the way we were informed by a shopkeeper that Guruvayur Temple will be very rushy and so we decided to visit the temple once in the evening to plan for our next day event. After a small shopping for Amudhan's traditional attire for the Choroon Vazhipadu we entered the temple. Kerela's tradition embarked everywhere , the temple showcased beautiful lights brightening all the visiting hearts. There was a very very big queue to have the dharshan of Lord Krishna. The shoperies alongside the templetwalk area were colorful and tempting. We bought few Kerela patterned Vilakku and a few Onam styled dresses .We enquir about the processes for the Rice Feeding Ceremony the next day and returned back for the dinner.

We usually make a lot of homework before selecting a hotel for the food and proceeded to the 'Sopanam Restaurant' .The place had a kathakali dressed doll which attracted my mom as she is fan of the attire. With few clicks there we ordered for the food , the most common menu - Parotas, Phulkas ,Chapathis,Fred Rice, Vegetable Stew and Chicken Curry. The restaurant was not markable and we were not satisfied with the taste and services. Later we discovered that we intended to go to 'Sowparnika's restaurant' but ended up here. One thing which made us happy was the cradle for the ligtle one which gave us a comfortable dining time.Back in Room with the alarms set to early 3AM we slept off.

May 19 2018:
Up early eagerly dressed up in all customery attires we started to the Guruvayur Temple at 5.30 AM with the thought that we might by-pass the rush.

There was a very heavy rain which poured down for more than two hours.
But contrary to our expectations, there were thousands of people freshly geared up for the queing. Roughly it might have taken four to five hours for the dharshan. We had other ideas as we gathered few ideas for the dharshan without waiting in the queue. It was a bit confusing for us to figure out where to go for the Annaprasannam.
For people who are having a plan to visit to Guruvayur for the Rice FeedigF Ceremony, here are a few tops.
1. Take the left entrance inside the temple , mobiles should be locked in the cloak room which is available in the temple premises
2. Annaprasannam - Choroon Vazhipadu can be done from 5 AM in the morning. Reach the Annaprasannam hall which is in the first floor, Tokens will be available for a charge for 20Rs.

Then here comes the most awaited Event - Amudhan's Annaprasannam.

Our little hero was dressed in Pattu veshti and sandhana pottu .

Me and my hubby readied ourselves in bright orange dresses , enhancing the radiation. Pink Kalamkari sarree printed with black lampholding ladies adored my Mom.

Dad and hubby with dhothis and sissy with her trendy navy blue Georgette saree, we were fully excited to see our little one eating his first meal. He is an active baby, got up along with us and happily sat on his father's lap for the Prasannam. Nei Payasam, Banana, Venna, Mota Rice with dhal , the food was presented to us in a plaintain leaf. All of us fed with all our love and affection to our little one and he was as excited as well and kept chewing the food for a long time. He has a cute habit of looking at the people , grabbing their attention and then giving a very big warm smile. He would have greeted more than fifty people with his elegance.

3. Getting back to the process , Mom-Dad along with the baby can get a direct dharshan via a special queue that might hardly take half an hour
4.Senior citizens can take a special way to dharshan , from 6AM to 8AM and there is a time slot at the evening too
5. There is a special ticket for Rs.1000 which will make a direct entry to the temple karuvarai
Pure Sandhanam from the real sandalwoods adored our foreheads.
Technology has taken a toll over all of us , without mobiles we had to make a few minutes of rough discussion to decide a central spot to meet back. Prasadham Purchase time - Nei Payasam, Paal Payasam, Appam, Ada, Vennai.
So ,yes we are done with the process and came out with a blessed feel.

Breakfast was served at our stayplace and after a few photosessions we took rest for sometime. Afternoon we got ready for the next session of our trip. Though we could not do more of spot explorations with our little one , he is an amazing baby and enjoyed every moment with a complete sense of liveliness. He will have his very own style of enjoyment, when in travel he talks , laughs and sightsees throug the side and back openings in car. When out, he has a keen sense of observation which can be evidently witnessed. With his fixed look at a place, one will be enthused to turn and look back at the spot he is gazing at.
We had our lunch at Sri Ganapathy Bhavan , a simple veg meal we got an info from the cashier that the 'Anakotta- Elephant Sanctuary' is a must visit. One more point to note is that if you are a foodie , Guruvayur does not serve your tastes.
The Anakotta has around 60 elephants in its captive. As we walked down the lane, it was a eye-filling sight though it was feary. A very good feel of love towards elephants crept into all our hearts as we watched them eat, bath, sleep, play and carry out their daily activities. As we proceed throught the path, we could see one Elephant being bathed by their caretaker, one is being fed , one is getting bathed and so on.
We took a few minutes to see the vibrant janvar eat his meal. There was a big tree, which he took out a single branch , whipped it on both sides of his body, strip out all the leaves and then gently puts into his mouth. He has a different pattern and step for eating different tree branch.
One Elephant grabbed few litres of water and fountained it both sides on himself which gave a spectacular look for the onlookers. There was one another which sprayed sand on itself and there was another which was dancing while eating out. Each one had their own individuality and we were enjoying their daily activities.
Out from the sanctuary, with some delicious ice creams in hands we headed towards the Chettuva Boathouse.

Chettuva Backwaters is one visiting spot near Guruvayur as per TripAdvisor and we decided to visit the place. We were misguided with the route and reached a spot where backwaters meet the sea. It was not a good destination and amma had to leave the place soon as Amudhan was not comfortable.

We had to walk for 20 mins to reach the beach. It was not tidy but the view of the sunset was really great. We took some naughty pics with the DSLR . On the way back to our car , we saw a person climbing the coconut tree to collect Toddy from the Pot up there. It was a cute process as the person took out the pot and polished the branch with his tool and put the Pot back in its position for Toddy Collection Process.

We were back to the car and started our way back to our Residency. We grabbed some good meal in parcel for our dinner and reached our place. Our residence has a neat little dining area where we could sit back and relax for a while as we taste our meal.

We had not planned for the next day's plan before as we were skeptical about our little one's behaviour.
I had to quickly go through many stay places near Guruvayur to spend the next day. There were many conditions for the search. After a lot of shortlistings we zeroed on one place near Palakkad.

'The NutMeg Valley' . Initially we did not know about the beauty of the place but we booked . Our host Mr.Harish is an awesome person , he confirmed our booking and asked for meal preference and few other details for our stay as well.

We packed our things as we set Good Bye to Guruvayur, we promised that we will be back again to the awesome place for my sissy's kiddo.. :P

A pleasant morning ride as our little one was enjoying along with us , we stopped in a bakery to grab some snacks. It is a place where freshly baked cakes and other snackeries were served. We got a whole lot of stuff from puffs, chips , burfis , sweets, nendharam Chips , Spring Roll , Kaala Jamun and started our travel.

We reached Palakkad and we got a clear guidance from our host to our stay place. As we were on the National Highway and drove with the map , we reached an Arch where we should take a right.
The path seemed to be one way though it can stretch to accomodate two vehicles at a time. The route is a pure bliss , surrounded by Rubber Plantation on both sides , there was a clean path to drive through. We reached 'The NutMeg Valley'. It was one awesome place at the foothills fully showered with Nature's beauty all along.

The Entrance - Beautifully Arched Greens above us

The Red Riding Villas - The Rooms were neat and painted red giving us a classy look

The Vegetable Plantation - The complete area is surrounded by full plantation giving us a heavenly look

The Dining Area - The thatched Roof Dining Space with the hot plates served every meal. The very point to be noted is that the hosts cooks food from the vegetables grown in their own courtyard
They have all vegetables , Greens - You name it - They have them

The Swimming Space - There is a cute little water pool for us to chill out

Rabbit Farm - Cute Cuddling Rabbits are a blessing to watch

Sit Out - Red Villa Sit Out give us a relaxing feel as we can have a look at the sun , foothills , green plantation all in one go. Chai at this place is a pure bliss , I would say

We were all super excited seeing our place and the host said , there is a stream nearby where we can take a bath too.
We planned to visit the Malampuzha Dam which is 30 mins from our place. Mom and Dad preferred to stay back with Amudhan and myself, sis and hubby decided to go. Me and my sis dressed up in the new outfit that we purchased in Guruvayur.

The Malampuzha Dam was filled with thousands and thousands of people and we made a wrong decision for visiting the place. I was taken away by the pics in Google , we would have better stayed back in our host's place that we could have got better experience.
There were so many tourist attracting events hosted at the Dam but we were not interested in any of them. We captured some goof quality pics with the DSLR and drove our way back.

Yummy Yummy Dinner was served - Chapathi , Chicken Curry , Veg Curry .

The place was so silent that any sound might dare to enter. We had a short discussion about their habitual happenings and went out to sleep after a complete day of travel.

Hot Chais are Kerela's speciality. They make tasty chai , my husband is a die hard fan for drinking teas . He is soo addicted that he never fails to sip his tea at home though I make the worst tea in the world. Our Hosts served us Tea and we were taken to a walk to the Stream.

As we walked through the Plantation  , we crossed an electric fence which surrounded our NutMeg Valley. When enquired about the fence , our hosts said that it is the electric fence that are to  safeguard themselves from Elephants. The fence is just a name sake thing of safety bcoz the elephants know how to break a fence and enter into the habitat.

As we walked through the narrow lane , it is a perfect bliss to watch the green plantations shining brightly , adored with the rays of sun. We crossed a small hut where Rubbers from the Rubber Plantation where stocked and dried. Such a big process is the Rubber Collection. There were chubby cocks and hens roaming around in their own area.

As we walked down the lane , there was a neat water stream passing our way  , it glittered like diamond as the sun showered its rays. As we touched our feet in the flowing water , we were so chilled from head to toe and did not like to move away from them. Our host promised an even more lovely scenary and we walked with him. Our Host definitely need a special mention. He is a super duper person who gives lovely company to his guests. Though he is not bound to be so courteous , he takes an extra mile in keeping his guests happy. He walked with us , telling us all good knowledge that we intend to gain about the locality. He carried our baby as Amudhan had a peaceful sleep hearing the soft buzz of the trees.

We walked through a mildly dense Rubber Plantation and there was not a drop of heaty feel inside.Heaven will feel proud of this area. We were so happy from within as we walked through the trees. We were so happy to see the mountains , silver lined clouds above the mountains , foggy smokes forming different patterns , sun beautifully spreading its shiny rays ..Everything put together we were completely allowed to inhale the freshness of nature to the fullest.Few Pics here and there we walked faster to the spot where our host was taking us.

We are now here.. A beautiful sit out rocky area to the left of which the Stream flows with its elegant gushy sound. To the right of which is the tall green Rubber Trees swaying breezy air and sound all around. To the top of it is a small pond like are bottomed with fresh sand and pebbles. This is a perfect spot where we can get a refreshing , energizing happiness from within. We were so thankful to our host for bringing us here and started jumping down into water. Drenched fully from top to bottom we then walked down the stream to a even better place.

There was a small waterfalls like area where we can sit and make the water flow over our head. As we can lay down , water flows over our head and we could see the rubber plantation above us through the water. Having spent some solid time there , we came back to the rocky area. Amudhan was so excited and we made him foot drench in the water and he enjoyed it as well. Some picturesque photos clicked . Our hosts family brought us some yummy breakfast there and we had a wholesome amount of it as the appetite was high after being in water for sometime long. Puttu , Kadala Curry , Scrambled Egg, Bread and Butter.

It started to drizzle a little and we decided to get back to our place. We were thinking a lot to extend our trip here as this lovely place crept into our mind and made us its slave. But we had to leave that day as our daily routines are waiting for us to be served.

Back in the red Villa, we relaxed ourselves as hot chai was served and started packing our things. A yummy lunch was served by our host. All the ingredients used for the preparation comes from their own garden. Tasty Tasty Food tickled our tongues as we said Good Bye to the NutMeg Valley and the Host Family.

Amudhan's AnnaPrasasnnam Trip gave us beautiful memories and we are back now giving wholesome meal to our LittleOne.
